a friend of mine has very severe rosacea and has never had any kind of treatment for it.. neither topical or laser.
As the laser treatment will be too expensive can anyone recommend a good alternative treatment to help calm the rosacea down. i understand it will never go away, and does return with a vengence sometimes. but shes 43 now and really wants to try something as it has gotten really bad and is fed up with the comments. Anything good and recommended will be appreciated!

Rosacea can be aggravated by alcohol and spicy foods so she could experiment by cutting one or other of these out of her diet. If the rosacea improves, try re-introducing the spicy food or alcohol to confirm that it is a factor. There is no point in depriving yourself of life’s little pleasures unnecessarily.
Once one has been tested, try the other possibility in the same way.
If you have a definite diagnosis that this is rosacea she could try a cream or lotion containing Metronidazole. This is marketed as "Rozex" in the UK but is only available with a doctors prescription. It may be available "over the counter" outside the UK but I would only recommend using it under medical supervision. If using this cream, read the enclosed leaflet carefully.
Rosacea can be aggravated by, or even be caused by, stress. Try to get plenty of regular exercise in the fresh air, preferably in daylight. The affected areas should be shaded from direct sunshine if possible, as this can also increase the severity of an attack.
If your friend has been diagnosed with rosacea I presume she has seen a GP or dermatologist, in which case I am surprised that no treatment has been suggested.
If she has self-diagnosed, I suggest that she does see a doctor to ensure that there is no other reason for her symptoms. At the very least, her blood pressure should be checked.
She really needs to be under the care of a good dermatologists…as complications can arise in mid-life(bulbous nose, skin thickening/thinning….scars etc).
Both my cousin and I have mild rosacea….she uses a prescription cream and I cannot remember the name.
I use a cream with plenty of green tea in it…have been using the derma e brand alpha lipoderm creme which contains green tea. It helps calm and soothe the redness…and it helps with the white lesions which are often mistaken as whiteheads(they are not).
